Nun sind wir schon ne Woche hier, arbeiten jeden Tag elf Stunden und haengen doch weit hinter dem Zeitplan. Das liegt einerseits an der deutlich zu ehrgeizigen Zeitplanung fuer die groesze des Auftragsvolumens, andererseits an fehlerhaften Vorleistungen des Museums sowie unserer Firma.
Fragwuerdig finde ich die Geschichtsauffassung, die hier in keiner Form reflektiert wird. Der kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der eigenen Geschichte ist offenbar kaum Anspruch der Smithsonian Institution. Das Motto des Museums: “Know history, use history, make history!” bekommt vor diesem Hintergrund einen sehr zynischen Beigeschmack.
Nebenbei konnte ich das ein oder andere interessante Gespraech fuehren, in dem auch neue Ansichten gewonnen werden konnten. Zum Beispiel dass in Stalingrad mehr Sowjetbuerger gestorben sind, als Amerikaner im ganzen 2. Weltkrieg. Und das Amerikaner mit infantiler Naivitaet weiter an iheren Staat glauben, trotzdem sie verarscht und verheizt wurden. Dieses Verstaendnis fehlt mir leider.
Nichts desto Trotz hatten wir am heutigen Sonntag frei und konnten uns ein wenig in der Stadt umsehen. Derzeit ist Memorial Day Wochenende, an welchem traditionell tausende Motorradfahrer durch die Stadt fahren und damit den Gefallenen/Vermissten/Kriegsgefangenen saemtlicher Kriege der USA gedenken. Ferner gabs ein bischen Sightseeing; das Weisze Haus (Wo Obama wohnt), Washington Memorial (der grosze Zahnstocher) und Lincoln Memorial (Huldigungstempel des hlg. Abraham) konnten abgehakt werden.
Na ja, es ist eben nie alles Gute beisammen. Und verklärtes Geschichts(un)wissen gibt sicherlich auch anderswo. Ich denke da nur voller Grausen an meinen eigenen Geschichtsunterricht.
