Aktuell errichten wir Vitrinen für das Freimaurermuseum in London. Untergebracht im Freemason’s Hall Gebäudekomplex, wird dessen bestehende Ausstellungsfläche deutlich erweitert. Die “United Grand Lodge of England” (Vereinigte Großloge Englands) stellt den Dachverband aller englischen und walisischen Freimaurerlogen dar. Sie ist die älteste Großloge der Welt.
Entgegen meiner Vermutung geht es hier aber nicht übermäßig geheimnisvoll zu, jeder darf das Gebäude betreten, mit einer Führung kann sogar der “Große Tempel” besichtigt werden.
Natürlich nur, wenn darinnen nicht gerade ein “Heiliges Ritual” einer der zahlreichen Logen stattfindet. Dann haben nur Freimaurer Zutritt. So traf ich neulich auf der Toilette viele ritterlich gekleidete ältere Herren, die wallenden Roben mit roten Tatzenkreuzen verziert; einige sogar mit Schwertern begürtet: Die Großbruderschaft von Malta weilte zu Besuch. Aber selbstverständlich gibt es keine Fotos.
Leider ist das Gebäude nicht als Museum konzipiert worden, was die Beförderung sperriger Teile durchs Gebäude deutlich erschwert. Fast unglaublich erschien uns daher die Güte unserer Firma, uns vor Ort angeheuerte Lastenträger zur Verfügung zu stellen. Diese hauptsächlich aus wahlenglischen Polen bestehende Truppe machte sich derart emsig ans Werk, dass wir meist nur zugucken konnten! Auch mal schön.
Ferner gab es die Gelegenheit, die Hauptstadt des britischen Empire genauer anzuschauen.
